Travis is a veteran with disabilities living in Anne Arundel County who contacted ACDS seeking assistance through our Property Rehabilitation Program. Travis’s family home suffered major damages due to a fire and was deemed an unsafe structure. The veteran and his wife were ordered to move out until these unsafe conditions were fixed. With Travis’s family not having anywhere to go, ACDS quickly reached out to evaluate the situation and see how we could make a difference in their lives. ACDS worked with several community partners, including the Department of Social Services, Arundel House of Hope, and the Villages at Marley Station to get the household temporarily relocated. The ACDS team put together an affordable financing package for the clients and oversaw the procurement of a qualified contractor and provided day-to-day construction management. In the end, ACDS was able to rehabilitate Travis’s home and give his family a fresh start.
