Financial Aid for Education Workshop

November 28, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Making education affordable

Is it time to further your education? Do you wonder where you are going to get the money? Are you  confused about the financial products that are available to you?

This workshop will help you successfully navigate the various sources of educational funding that could help you pursue your educational goals, as well as differentiate these resources from predatory for   profit schools and financial aid packages that could put you in unnecessary debt.

Attend this workshop to gain insight into the process of identifying scholarships, grants, and loans  available and how to apply for these resources.  This workshop will also provide an in-depth discussion of the immediate and future impact educational loans will have on your financial well being.

Learn how to assess interest rates, terms and conditions of potential financial resources and the effect those conditions will have on your budget.

Instructor:  Jen Diamond, Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition

Jen Diamond is the Communications and Program Associate at the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition. Her work at MCRC is primarily focused on issues around for-profit schools in Maryland. Jen has lobbied in the Maryland state legislature to protect consumers from predatory payday loans, fraudulent for-profit schools, unfair debt collection practices, and more.  She helped design and execute MCRC’s “Know Before You Enroll”   campaign to help students avoid high-cost, low-yield colleges and career programs. Jen holds a bachelor’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University and is a proud graduate of the Public Allies Maryland program.

Instructor:  Dr. Emma Torres, Financial Aid Specialist

Emma Torres, MBA, Ed.D is a Financial Aid Specialist at Anne Arundel Community College. She has served and presented in many roles within financial aid such as; FAFSA Completion Nights, Ways to Pay for College Workshops, MPT Call Center Representative, New Student Orientations, and You Can Afford College Workshops just to name a few. Dr. Torres’s goal is to help students and parents understand the financial aid process and to expose them to opportunities that will help students received funds to pay for their college education.

This is one of six different Financial Empowerment Workshops offered by ACDS this fall.  Check out our calendar for more workshops!
