May is National Foster Care Month. This year, ACDS awarded and is administering funding through the County Executive’s Community Support Grants (CSG) to two organizations that work to ensure youth in foster care have the resources they need to thrive.
CASA
Anne Arundel County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Inc. serves children from birth to 21 who have been abused or neglected, and go into foster care. Community Support Grant funds support CASA to fully train volunteers and provide Case Supervisors for up to 140 children.
Blue Ribbon Project
Community Support Grant funds support Mirah’s Closet, a Foster Closet Program offered by The Blue Ribbon Project, which provides FREE clothing and other essential items to children who are in foster care. They have provided school uniforms, play clothes, pajamas, new underwear, outer clothing, and seasonal items such as coats and bathing suits to over 400 children so far this fiscal year!
